Pot Lids that covered pot bases holding anchovy paste, a popular Victorian spread. All dug by me in 1974/1975 off the same rubbish tip site which was at the side of the railway line that runs through Collingham, north Nottinghamshire. The bases rarely turn up with the lids but it is the lids themselves that diggers are after with their lovely underglaze printed designs. These are pretty common because they were the most commonly found fish-paste at the time, but still nice to have been dug up nearly 100 years after they were dumped.
