For a long time I collected wind-up gramophones and 78 r.p.m. records. During that time I searched around for unusual items to expand the collection and it was during this time that I came across this great game. Called Foto-Finish it is a horse race game with 8 horses, paper money and a game board where you plce your bets. The game comes with 2 x 78 r.p.m. records each with the recording of a horse race involving the 8 horses. The clever feature is that each side of the records has 8 different races in which a different horse wins depending which groove the record needle travels along. There is no way you can tell which race you are listening too and each race is almost identical except for the very end where you find who ther winner is. There are 8 separate grooves running close to each other and when playing the record the needle can go into any one of the 8 so the outcome cannot be known before the end of the particular recording you are hearing. It is in excellent condition and appears that it probably hasn't been played with. I have not used it in anger so I don't know what it sounds like, but I have other 'puzzle' records so I do know how they work in practice. I bought this one off a car boot for the princely sum of £4 in the 1990's and I thought it was cheap then. This game plays at 33 r.p.m. and dates to the mid 1950's being produced in Union of South Africa by Cameo sound Features (Pty) Ltd. for Chad Valley, Harborne, England.
